There are many websites that offer the visitor a catalogue of artists and
paintings, but there are not very many that go the extra mile and try to offer
more. The spiritual art portal will go that one step further than the more
traditional catalogue. Some paintings will have critiques with them as well as
background information.
To access an image, for example, the annunciation; click on the Christian link
at the top of the page then the link for
Mary, finally click on the link for annunciation, and this will show a list of images
for that category, click on any image and it will take you to the picture.
Artists over the centuries have painted mainly Christian art, indeed, many
of them worked for the Catholic churches in the renaissance and beyond. But as
art became more and more accessible to the richer families, artists were
commissioned to paint not only the family portraits but other spiritual art as
well, for example, mythological subjects were popular for some patrons of the
arts. The links to those genres of art are at the top of the page.
